The staff, students and management of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, the University that is sited on soft green hills bring you greetings. We do hope that this letter meets you in good stead in your life endeavours.
The purpose for writing you at this time is to, most respectfully, request your very kind assistance to enable the University Administration attempt to solve the many challenges facing our university. As you know, the University of Nigeria was established six decades ago and has continued to serve the nation judiciously in her efforts to “Restore the Dignity of Man.” However, with the growing population of both students and staff over the years, and dwindling statutory allocation of funds to the University, the resources available to maintain and upgrade her infrastructural needs have become considerably inadequate. This situation has led to gross infrastructural deficit on all campuses of the University with students and staff barely able to survive on the existing physical and municipal infrastructure. The effect of this on the quality of teaching and learning as well as the living and working conditions of both staff and students is better experienced than imagined. As the University marks its 60th anniversary in October, 2020, the administration is planning a massive reconstruction and renovation of facilities to give the institution a facelift befitting of a 21st century learning environment.
In recognition of your eminent position as an alumnus of the University and your avowed commitment to uplifting humanity, the administration humbly invites you to participate in our “Sponsor a Project Programme” as part of the 60th Anniversary celebrations of the University. We recognize the immense contributions you have made in the past to the University and so our request should not be misconstrued as ridding a willing horse to death. We are also aware of the harsh economic conditions in the country, however, our constraint is that the glory of our Alma mater is fast being eroded as meaningful teaching and learning can hardly take place due to the acute infrastructural deficit.
Attached to this letter is a list of some infrastructural and facility needs of the University. You may wish to sponsor a project or co-sponsor one depending on your persuasion. You can also make monetary donations as you deem necessary. Although, there is no reward that could be commensurate with your financial contributions to the University, we have some token rewards in place to appreciate your efforts. Such will include but not limited to: naming such a project after you, putting your name in our alumni or dignitary Hall of Fame, honorary awards of different types and other benefits as may be determined by the administration.
As we look forward to your valued assistance, we shall be available to discuss and make further clarifications on the subject matter through:
